Te Ara Wāhine: Te Moana-a-Toi | The Female Football Pathway for the Western Bay of Plenty - Launching 2026

Eight football clubs across the Western Bay of Plenty have united around a shared kaupapa: Creating a bold, aspirational pathway for kōhine and wāhine (girls and women) to thrive in football, right here at home.

Te Ara Wāhine: Te Moana-a-Toi is a new collective entity designed to support girls and women to progress to the highest levels of domestic football in Aotearoa without leaving the Bay of Plenty. It represents a region choosing collaboration over competition off the pitch, so players can shine on it.

Girls football pathway

Not every player wants the same football experience, and that’s okay. Some girls play for fun, friendship and fitness. Others are ready for more training, more challenge and a stronger development focus.

Ōtūmoetai Football Club offers both community-based teams and development pathway opportunities, depending on age, ability, commitment and player goals.

For younger players, the focus is on enjoyment, participation and confidence. As players get older, additional development opportunities may become available through Girls Skill School, Pre-Academy, Academy and youth pathway programmes.
